Best-in-Class Workforce Management Software from Industry Experts

Here is the drill: Daylight saving time (DST) ended on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at 2 a.m. ET. Most north Americans would have set their clocks back an hour. This makes for darker days, and for some people, it will take a few days to get used to, while for some others, it might take them a week or two to adjust to the time change.

The spring brings the arrival of daylight saving time in March 2018 and requires clocks to be moved forward one hour at 2 a.m. Employees who are shift workers and who are on duty at that time and who normally work an eight-hour shift will actually work only seven hours, unless of course, your company is using an automated time and attendance system that automatically adjusts with daylights savings time.

ATS TimeWork OnDemand Is Designed To Handle Daylight Savings Time

A blog titled As the clocks turn back this weekend, don’t forget FLSA rules authored by Pamela Deloacth for HRDive offers the following advice for companies:

“That extra hour of work can present several unanticipated challenges, in addition to an unpaid hour:

Overtime: If that additional hour puts an employee at more than 40 hours during that workweek, the Fair Labor Standards Act requires the employee be paid overtime. Employees who fall under the “8 and 80” system — or in states that require daily overtime — may be eligible for overtime for that day.

Collective Bargaining Agreements: Employers should ensure that they are following any provisions in a collective bargaining agreement that addresses wage and hour provisions for time change”.

If your company has in excess of 30 employees handling daylight savings time (DST) manually can be a challenge. Automating your time tracking system, instead of doing it manually, will make your payroll and HR managers happy and more productive, especially if they have to deal with sleep deprived employees, still adjusting to the daylight savings time.  ATS TimeWork OnDemand is a cloud-based time and attendance designed for; Payroll, Accrual Benefits, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Talent Management, and Analytics integration. ATS TimeWork OnDemand provides organizations with access to real-time data of Workforce Management (WFM) capabilities, across all domains.

In recent years, the popularity of cloud-based software solutions has grown exponentially. But it was too long ago that some doubters viewed software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions as the brand new toy that would fade away from the collective memory of most business executives. As it turned out, the reverse happened. In fact many businesses would prefer to deploy a business management software solution in weeks not years and do not want to hassle of having their IT department maintain a Server for each software application. And in today’s very competitive business landscape who wants to maintain expensive servers when there are less expensive alternatives like a cloud-based application.

Joe McKendrick, contributor on Forbes.com said in a recent article “Benefits already seen from current cloud deployments include the simplification of internal operations (37 percent); better delivery of internal resources (33 percent); and new ways for employees to work, connect, and collaborate (31 percent). Also on the list of cloud benefits realized are faster rollout of new business initiatives to exploit new opportunities (at 23 percent) and improved ability to acquire, share, analyze, and act on data (23 percent).”

A High-Performing Workforce Management System without the Complexity

The fast-moving and uncertain global economic environment demands that today’s time and attendance software solutions be user-friendly. In this digital age, people are accustomed to using well-designed applications through smartphones, tablets and other platforms in their personal lives. In business, these same consumers have little patience for vendors that boast about the number of years they have been around, yet, trot out applications that are cumbersome to use and difficult to understand. While functionality remains important, the key for most companies is the usability of the software.

ATS TimeWork On-Demand is an integrated workforce management software suite that combines business value, web-based funcationality and deep industry experience into a business solution with a low total cost of ownership. TimeWork On-Demand is a best-of-breed solution that runs on Apple iPad, Samsung, Android, Surface tablets and any workstation with Internet access.

ATS employee scheduling supports multiple shift schedules operating concurrently, including variable patterns and other options all of which are easily user-configurable.

Time and Attendance- ATS Time and Attendance On-Demand provides data in real time, it can help your organization make decisions quickly, control payroll costs and improve workforce productivity. ATS time and attendance automates manual processes, while reducing data entry errors and frees supervisors and other employees to focus on other tasks.

Over time, organizations may find themselves running different proprietary software systems across multiple departments with little or no integration. Further complicating these issues are when these disparate systems are incompatible, too expensive to maintain, outdated and are unable to be serviced or upgraded. When it becomes apparent that your company’s time and attendance systems need improvements, this is when ATS cloud-based time and attendance solution begins to make business sense.

So your company has decided that it needs to automate its business management process. Everyone is excited that finally, the manual tasks will be gone. So, a steering committee is selected and someone out of that group is given the task of being the project leader.

Next you jot down your list of requirements and go about contacting vendors to provide a demonstration. Your list of requirements includes things like:

  • Automate the vacation request of employees throughout the organization
  • Employee biometric time clocks for all locations
  • Real-time business intelligence data gathering
  • Data integration to your current; talent management, customer relationship management (CRM), human resources software (HR), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and payroll software
  • Track and manage overtime, premium hours and statutory holidays
  • Job costing and labour allocation functionality
  • Ease-of-use for functional users

After several weeks of viewing products by various vendors, the flashy presentations are the ones that remain on everyone’s mind and at this stage, you are all excited.  But wait! Is your company enraptured by the sizzle or the steak? Try to look past the glitz and bargain basement prices offered. A good time and attendance system should be accompanied by a team of diligent system analysts (depending on the size of the project) and a thorough implementation plan.

Selecting a time and attendance vendor to work with becomes more than just the price of the system. It is not uncommon for an ATS account executive to hear “we want the cheapest solution” only to get a call from the same company 6 months later after the “cheap solution” did not meet their needs.

Your potential vendor should also have a thorough understanding of your company’s business requirements during the demonstration and display it through words and actions. You should also make it your business to find out about the training methodology. If your company has 10 or more users for your new system, online training should not be an option.  In addition, the training should be backed by a team of experienced systems analysts who can match the time and attendance system functionalities with your company’s business needs. Even better, some of your company’s core business requirements should be part of the product already—straight out of the box.

A vendor, in many respects, should be willing to commit to the success of its customers. Selecting which time and attendance vendor to work with becomes about more than just the software. When the focus remains on the sizzle, and the price the customer ends up with a system that is simply not meeting their needs.
