Best-in-Class Workforce Management Software from Industry Experts

Hiring employees is no easy task, just ask any HR or hiring manager and they will you. Some of them probably have their own lists of questions that they have compiled and use, during their years of experience.

Here are 4 Interview Questions to Avoid Hiring Toxic Employees according to Dianna Booher’s blog, in TLNT: Talent & HR online publication.

  1. Who are 3-5 people in the public arena or your personal or social life whom you admire and why? Responses here will reveal several things: How informed are they on local happenings, current affairs, politics, or pop culture? Does their response suggest they can’t think of anyone, or simply that they can’t narrow their choices? Were all choices from public life rather than personal or social circles? That may suggest few mentors or role models in their life. Why? If all choices are personal acquaintances, that may suggest non-involvement in the community or activities outside the home. Why? At least, their answers will reveal their values.
  • Can you recall ever seeing or hearing about someone mistreated in the workplace? How did you handle or react to the situation? Their answers will reveal values and ethics. You’re also judging their capacity to feel empathy and compassion. Further, the action they took in this situation tells you about their ability to persuade others to stop the mistreatment or otherwise correct the situation. Their response also tells you about their tolerance for risk (if they had to act alone to stop the mistreatment). Did they risk their own reputation or even their own job to do the right thing?
  • Would you tell me about a particularly bad day you’ve had this past year or two — a day when nothing was routine and almost everything went wrong? How did you deal with all the stress and calamity? Their response gives you some perspective on what happenings they consider “routine” versus “calamity” and “particularly bad.” But what you’re really looking for is their coping mechanisms — both emotional stability and resourcefulness. Listen carefully to the retelling for words like “so upset,” “so angry,” “had a major meltdown,” “went ballistic,” “frantic,” “just beside myself with worry.”
  • Explain a new idea to me. For example, take a complex term, product, service, or project in a past job and explain it to me so well that I could teach a session on it tomorrow. I’ve yet to meet the job applicant who admits to having weak communication skills. In my three decades of reviewing résumés and making hire decisions, job candidates routinely claim some version of “excellent oral and written communication skills.” This exercise aims to test that boast. As the applicant explains the concept, interrupt with questions along the way to see how they react.

Bottomline: To ensure the success of your business, you need to hire the best job candidates and provide them with the support they need to grow in their jobs. And in these strange COVID-19 times, you are likely to conduct your interviews virtually, which in and of itself, can present a different set of challenges.

Workforce Statistics And Job Recovery, What Recovery?

September 9th, 2014 | Posted by Apex Time Solutions in Labour Forecasting | Payroll | Time and Attendance Blog - (Comments Off on Workforce Statistics And Job Recovery, What Recovery?)

The latest job numbers from both the US and Canada paint a gloomy picture. Some experts contend that the reported numbers show how much catching up the economy has to do after the great recession. So, is there any end in sight to these gloomy numbers? Regarding payroll, in its most recent report the US department of labor states:

“Payroll employment increases in August (+142,000); unemployment rate changes little (6.1%) Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 142,000 in August, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 6.1 percent. Job gains occurred in professional and business services and in health care.”

And on productivity, it states in part, “Productivity increased 2.3 percent in the nonfarm business sector in the second quarter of 2014; unit labor costs decreased 0.1 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates). In manufacturing, productivity increased 3.3 percent and unit labor costs decreased 1.6 percent.”

Are these the type of numbers we can expect to see in the upcoming months or is this just an anomaly? Some experts suggest that the job reports are inaccurate, and that statisticians, are not using the right forecasting tools hence, the numbers do not equate to the true unemployment figures.

One thing’s for sure with employment at an all time high for recent graduates and many older workers, let’s all hope we do not slip back into a recession anytime soon.

The Benefits Of Workforce Management Training

August 14th, 2014 | Posted by Apex Time Solutions in Time and Attendance Blog | Web-Based Time and Attendance Software | Workforce Management Solutions - (Comments Off on The Benefits Of Workforce Management Training)

It has been said that implementation is the bread and butter of any time and attendance project and while this is true, the same should be said for training. It’s therefore, not uncommon for us to get request for additional training, from our customers, several months after the system deployment. Whether you’re operating in locally, regionally or on a global scale, day-to-day business processes are often time-consuming. And, if your company is one of the few still using some kind of antiquated punch clocks, chances are its costing valuable time and money to operate that way. With ATS Time and Attendance Training, learn how to use built-in modules that are designed to address these pain points and drive better business performance.

Why is training so important? Well, if your departmental managers/supervisors are not fully trained, chances are you will not gain user acceptance, which means they will not use the system. For example, some companies will wait to train end-users prior to going live. To get the best out of your time and attendance system, we suggest, preparing users who will need to perform edits on a daily basis with training as part of the business management process overview. This ensures that employee productivity does not take a nose dive after go-live and business operations continue without disruption.

To help your employees gain a thorough knowledge of ATS time and attendance system, ATS offers several hands-on training programs. These programs address the unique needs of your departments and covers specific requirements within the software. The training programs will teach you not only program functionality, but more importantly, how to use the system to the benefit of your organization.

On-Site Training –ATS offers on-site training for customers who prefers that their users be trained at their facility. On-site training classes allow the flexibility of adapting the class duration and training topics to those most applicable to your company’s environment, while also allowing for the training of multiple users without asking them to travel away from their work environments.

On-Demand Learning –offers the convenience of Internet-based sessions that are available whenever you are. All you need is a computer, and high-speed Internet connection. On-Demand Learning is an ideal way to review material, acquaint new hires with basic software skills, and with the aid of an ATS professional train your staff in remote offices.

Lunch and Learns- are fee-based 1-hour real-time training sessions on various topics of the ATS TimeWork product. You will walk away learning a specific task or understanding a feature that you can immediately use in your daily work. We hold them monthly and have a full schedule available

Very few companies can effectively use a time and attendance right out of the box. It must be modified to suit the business requirement of an organization. So, if you are in the market for a new system, then make sure sufficient time is set aside for training. That’s one ROI you cannot afford to overlook.

Is Sales A Bit Of Art And Science Or Is There More To It?

May 21st, 2014 | Posted by Apex Time Solutions in Cloud Based Time Management Solution | Employee Time Tracking Software | Time and Attendance Blog - (Comments Off on Is Sales A Bit Of Art And Science Or Is There More To It?)

Quite frankly, no one really knows and that includes the experts themselves. Our marketing team did our own straw poll and asked a few of the account executives at ATS.  Some of them said it was a bit of both, while others lamented that it was neither science nor art. We then asked a few of our customer’s sales reps in non-related industries, and pretty much got the same answers. A consistent response from all respondents was that the sales industry itself had changed dramatically in the several years.

An article in the Harvard Business Review states, in part:

“Under the conventional solution-selling method that has prevailed since the 1980s, salespeople are trained to align a solution with an acknowledged customer need and demonstrate why it is better than the competition’s. This translates into a very practical approach: A rep begins by identifying customers who recognize a problem that the supplier can solve, and gives priority to those who are ready to act. Then, by asking questions, she surfaces a “hook” that enables her to attach her company’s solution to that problem. Part and parcel of this approach is her ability to find and nurture somebody within the customer organization—an advocate, or coach—who can help her navigate the company and drive the deal to completion.”

While the profession itself has seen some changes, sales professionals still have to deal with quotas and the everyday pressures of their profession. The biggest adjustment that these reps will have to deal with is the changes in buyer behaviours. However, if the companies, who these sales professionals represent, have not adjusted to the new ways and subtle nuances of selling, chances of success for both parties will be slim to none.

So, the question still lingers; is sales art or science?

Break Down the Silos with a Time and Attendance System

During a customer’s site visit to understand their business requirements, it’s not uncommon for ATS business analyst, to experience cultural and/or data accessibility silos. In fact, it is almost expected but the most gratifying of all, is how these barriers are broken after the implementation of ATS TimeWork On-Demand Time and Attendance Solution.

More often than not, silos are created when different departments and/or locations use different business management software, standards and technology for inputting and analyzing employee time and attendance data. The HR and payroll departments may be using the full capabilities of a workforce management solution, while the production department is pulling data from Excel and never reconciling the two. This type of inconsistency creates silos of non-standardized data that companies cannot rely on to make sound business decisions.

The implementing of a robust employee time management solution that’s used by all locations and departments increases the reliability of business data and also helps to break down departmental silos. By using an automated employee time clock solution companies can start sharing workforce data and other data analytics across departments and locations.

Following are three workforce productivity improvements you will notice upon implementation of an ATS time and attendance solution:

  • Eliminate IT cost and complexity with ATS TimeWork On-Demand proven, cloud solution that eliminates the cost of managing, maintaining, and upgrading business applications.
  • Improve business efficiency by eliminating redundant data entry and the time, cost and errors associated with using separate systems for production, payroll, warehousing, and finance.
  • Gain a comprehensive real-time view across the company with flexible, on-demand reporting.

When the right amount of business process organizational changes are initiated, ATS workforce management software can increase collaboration within your organization, and dissolve silos caused by communication breakdowns.

Find out how today’s company’s are using ATS TimeWork On-Demand cost-effective solution to gain competitive advantage and grow their business.

Evolving businesses are driving workforce management solutions

February 4th, 2014 | Posted by Apex Time Solutions in Payroll | Time and Attendance Blog | Time and Attendance Solution | Workforce Management Software - (Comments Off on Evolving businesses are driving workforce management solutions)

Due to the growth of the cloud, business executives will be seeking out new workforce management solutions with a high degree of flexibility. Many executives understand the benefits of a cloud-based time and attendance and are encouraging their managers, to explore these options.

Cloud-based workforce management software positively affects the entire organization. It creates efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain and provides businesses with access to the most up-to-date status on attendance and real-time reporting capabilities. Production managers are notified through e-mail alerts, when an employee request time-off and HR and payroll managers have instant access to attendance trends on any smartphone or tablet device from anywhere.

However, companies that are using manual timesheets struggle because they do not have access to recent and reliable information and, this can create problems in today’s fast-paced world. Companies, who leverage the benefits of an effective workforce management solution, report a decrease in the amount of time it took to predict payroll costs and other important business variables.

ATS delivers a best-of-breed portfolio of time and attendance solutions, giving companies the flexibility, choice, and control needed to drive innovation and agility into their businesses. ATS software-As-A-Service (Saas) time and attendance solution is built from the ground up and leverages ATS’s industry expertise, to enable you to execute your business strategies at scale and adapt your processes quickly and easily.

So, how does your competitor leverage a cloud-based workforce management to their advantage? They recognize that to remain competitive and increase profits, doing the same thing from 10 years ago will not work. So, they choose to utilize tools that will help their business grow, streamline costs and above all, increase productivity. An ATS time and attendance system does that and a great deal more.
