We all have this inner voice that travels with us throughout our day. When that inner voice is dwelling on happy thoughts chances are that will translate to us having a wonderful day. And, the reverse is true if those thoughts are steeped in negativity — in fact, several studies have shown that negative thoughts can limit ones options. All is not lost however, as the mind can be taught to learn differently.
A recently article by Lolly Daskal for Inc.com titled ‘Thinking About Giving Up? Read This First?’ is a perfect anecdote for anyone who’s thinking about quitting. The article points to seven reasons why you should not quit. And, reads in part:
“1. Think of the why.
Remember why you started in the first place. What did you want to achieve? What did you want to accomplish?
- Don’t do what is easy.
Anything great is worth fighting for.
- Remember it’s not over till it’s over.
Some people fold after making one timid request. Don’t be that person. Do all you can to succeed, even when the odds are against you. Even if it’s late in the final inning, you can still win it–unless you quit.
- Mind your attitude.
Negative thoughts create negative results. Do what you can to turn it around and replace negativity with positive thoughts.
- Take responsibility.
You can’t always control the results. But you own your efforts, your ideas, and your perseverance against obstacles.
- Keep learning.
Everyone makes mistakes and goes through rough patches. But if you learn from the things that go wrong you can redeem your failures. It’s not about avoiding adversity, but knowing how to handle it.
- Believe in second (and third and fourth and fifth) chances.
Just because you didn’t get it right the first time, that doesn’t mean you won’t get it right the second.”
Wow! That’s enough positive thinking for a month. Of course, the rigors of life can take their toll and, it’s not always easy, but when they do— try and find solace in articles, like the one written by Lolly Daskal and others, and that can sometimes make all the difference in the world.
